Bij een gewapende aanval op een voetbalveld in Mexico zijn gisteren zeker elf doden gevallen. Dat meldt burgemeester Cesar Prieto van de stad Salamanca, ten noordwesten van Mexico-Stad.

Volgens lokale media reden tegen het einde van een voetbalwedstrijd meerdere busjes het veld op. Vervolgens opende een gewapende groep het vuur.

Tien mensen werden ter plekke gedood, een persoon overleed later in het ziekenhuis. Ook liggen er nog twaalf gewonden in het ziekenhuis, zegt de burgemeester.

Veel Amerikaanse prominenten hebben met afgrijzen gereageerd op de gebeurtenissen rond de dood van Alex Pretti, de man die in Minneapolis werd doodgeschoten door de grenspolitie. Pretti, een verpleegkundige op de intensive care, was zaterdagochtend bezig met het filmen van agenten van de grenspatrouille op een straat in Minneapolis toen hij werd neergeschoten.

Hij overleed ter plaatse. Voormalig president Obama noemt zijn dood een "hartverscheurende tragedie".

Hij zegt dat het een wake-upcall zou moeten zijn voor elke Amerikaan, "ongeacht zijn of haar politieke voorkeur". "Veel van onze kernwaarden als natie staan steeds meer onder druk." Het is uitzonderlijk dat Obama zich zo direct bemoeit met de Amerikaanse politiek.
